Show Notes:

Here are some ways Ellanee approaches sleep:

Be clear and realistic about expectations

Focus on scheduling

Keep in mind that tired babies don’t sleep well

Crying is a biologically normal thing that babies do

There is a constant risk benefit analysis with parenting day-to-day

The guidance for toddlers is the same as with babies, but with more words because they have more autonomy. With a toddler you can ask, “How do we get on the same team and make bedtime fun?”

What to do when kids wake too early?

Do a quick reboot nap in the morning (30 minutes or less) and then get back on track for a longer nap in the afternoon.

What do I do if my toddler doesn’t want to wake after a quick reboot in the morning?

Remember it will be hard for the first few days but it will get better. It’s temporary.

Takeaways:

There are kids who have higher sleep needs and lower sleep needs.

There is a genetic component with sleep needs so look for trends in your family.
